Dog Socialization, Training and Obedience

Veterinary and Rehabilitation Center of Cape Elizabeth wants to foster the bond between you and your pet by providing for your pet's mental and physical health care needs throughout all life's stages.  As part of this effort, we are proud to work with Grace Pomeroy who specializes in fear free/ positive reinforcement techniques. We are happy to provide a list of area trainers who share our philosophy of fear free training. These trainers are passionate about force free, positive dog training, and specialize in family dogs, and dogs with major behavior issues, such as reactivity and fear aggression, as well as obedience and agility.

 

What is Basic Dog Obedience/Behavior Training?

This course is for dogs 5 months and older teaches YOU how to train your dog through understanding dog behavior, discovering realistic expectations for training, and using proper leadership skills to teach your dog self-control and responsibility.  By graduation you will have taught your dog to walk on a loose leash, sit, stay, heel, down, come, plus much more.

 

What is Puppy Training?

Dog training, puppy classes, Veterinary and Rehabilitation Center of Cape Elizabeth, Dog Behavior issues, take classes with your dog in Cape Elizabeth at local Cape veterinary center on Route 77

Puppy training for dogs 18 weeks and younger, provides you and your puppy with the opportunity to get started on the right paw.  Your puppy will develop socialization and interaction skills with other puppies, people and environments.  This in turn builds your pet's self confidence and develops trust between you both.  House training, chewing, and biting advice will be incorporated.  Proper leadership skills will be used to teach simple obedience commands.  The emphasis of this class is FUN FUN FUN!  Start training early and raise a Rock Star!

  

General Information

*Please call the office to find out availability. 

*For puppies 18 weeks and younger.

*Dogs must be up to date with immunizations

*One primary handler is recommended, although two are allowed.

 

Materials Needed for Training Sessions

*Small pieces of soft treats

*Regular collar or a Gentle Leader head collar if appropriate.

*Nylon leash (4ft-6ft long) no chains, ropes or flexi-leads

*Great attitude and willingness to learn.
